With so many places to visit, a Namibian adventure can make any vacation worthwhile. Before you pack your things and go on a great Namibia tour, here are some places to visit.
1.) Waterberg Plateau Park
Located 68 kilometers east of Otjiwarongo, the Waterberg Plateau stands some 200 meters above the surrounding area. Wildlife watching will be a fruitful activity in this part of Namibia. 405.5 km2 of this reserve is home to some rare and endangered species of antelope and birds, rhinoceros, buffaloes, and sable.
Damaraland is home to a wide selection of tourist attractions such as the 35-m natural obelisk Vingerklip and Namibia’s largest deposit of Stone Age petroglyphs Twyfelfontein. Another famous Damaraland attraction includes the Organ Pipes created by volcanic movements. There is also a 250-year-old Petrified Tree and the Brandberg Nature Reserve.
3.) Etosha National Park
Etosha National Park is Namibia’s largest game reserve. It covers some 22,000 km2 including the Etosha pan which measures 130 km in length and 50 km. He captured about 250 lions, 6000 zebras, 300 rhinoceroses, 2500 giraffes, 2000 elephants, and about 20000 dainty springbok, along with pelicans, flamingos, impalas, and other animals at times.
4.) Cape Cross Seal colony
Enjoy the sight, sound and smell of thousands of fur seals at Namibia’s Cape Cross Seal Colony. It is 130 kilometers from Swakopmund. Cape Cross Seal Colony lets you have a day with the seals any time of the year.
5.) Namib-Naukluft Park
Namib-Naukluft Park is one of the largest national parks in Africa. It covers some 50000 km2 of Namibian land and also includes the Namib Desert Park, Naukluft Mountain Zebra Park and some parts of the Diamond Area. Popular attractions in the Namib-Naukluft Park include the sand dunes of Sossusvlei and Sandwich Harbor as well as large plants and animals such as Welwitschia Mirabilis, Hartmann’s mountain zebras and lichens.
Kolmanskop is an abandoned town located in the Southern Namib desert located 10 kilometers from Lüderitz. The city provided shelter against the harsh conditions of the Namibian desert for Diamita’s miners, but the drop in diamond prices after WWI and the prospect of rich mines in Oranjemund ended its work, and so it was destroyed in 1956. Enjoy a walk in this Namibian Relic and learn more about the country’s economic and social history.
Swakopmund is a city located 280 kilometers from Windhoek. The city with its Atlantic coast, cool climate and German architecture is one of the main destinations of Namibia. Swakopmund’s many tourist attractions include the Altes Gefängnis Prison, the Wörmannhaus, the National Marine Aquarium, a crystal gallery, and a moving museum.
8.) Bone Coast
Be mystified and awed by the Skeleton Coast Park’s ever-changing moods, dense coastal fog, scattered shipwrecks, and majestically intact surroundings. Fly in from Hoanib and Kunene rivers and see the Coast in its entirety. You can also enter the area between the Ugab and Hoanib rivers and enjoy the best fishing area on the coast.
9.) Fish River Canyon
Eja River Canyon is the largest canyon in Africa, measuring 160 kilometers long, 27 kilometers wide and some 550 meters deep. You can engage in the 85-kilometer Fish River Canyon Trail from Hobas to Ai-Ais. You can also take a one or two day hike at many places inside the canyon.
Enjoy the raw wilderness of Namibia by visiting the Kaokaland region with its mountain views and natural wildlife sanctuaries. The jagged landscape is also home to the Himba tribe who still survive through their own customs and traditions. Be enthralled by the quiet, peaceful environment that Kaokaland offers while enjoying water rafting, boating and bird watching and more.
