What Makes God Smile?

Psalm 147:11 “The Lord is pleased with those who fear him, with those who hope in his mercy.”

We often forget that God has emotions, too. He feels things deeply. The Bible tells us that God grieves, is jealous, and is angry, and has compassion, mercy, sorrow, and compassion, and also has joy, happiness, and satisfaction. God loves, he is happy, he is happy, he is happy, he is happy, and he even laughs. And if you can laugh you can cry. Anything that brings joy to God is called worship. – The Bible tells us to “reign for him always”, “give him praise from east to west”, Continue communication with him always.

The Bible says in Ephesians 5:10: “Seek what is acceptable to the Lord.” In other words, “Describe what will please Christ, then do it.” Wouldn’t you know that the Bible gives us a clear example of the kind of life that pleases God. The perfect example comes through the life of a man named Noah.

In Noah’s day, the whole world was morally corrupt. Everyone lives for their own pleasure, not God’s. God does not see anyone who wants to make him happy on earth, so he is sad. He regrets making people. God hates the human being so much that he thought of killing him. But there was a man who made God smile. The Bible says in Genesis 6:8 “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.” Noah was pleased with God.

God said, “This man makes me happy. He makes me smile. I will start with your family.” Because Noah pleased God, you and I are alive today. From his life we learn five acts of worship that make God smile.

1. GOD ALWAYS LOVES HIM TOTALLY – Noah loved God more than anything else in the world, even when there was no one else! “Noah was a righteous man and perfect in his generation, and Noah walked with God.”, Genesis 6:9. Noah always followed God’s will and enjoyed a close relationship with him. This is what God wants from us, a relationship.

Jesus called it the greatest commandment. Matthew 22: 37-38 “Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your heart, and with all your soul. This is the first and great commandment.”

2 GOD IS PRAISED WHEN WE TRUST HIM COMPLETELY – The second reason Noah pleased God was that he trusted God, even when he did not understand.

The Bible says in Hebrews 11:7: “By faith Noah built an ark in the middle of the dry land. He was warned about something he couldn’t see, and he did what he was told…. become intimate with God,”

There are three problems that can make Noah doubt about God.

Noah had never seen rain. Noah lived hundreds of kilometers from the nearest sea. — There is a problem of collecting all the animals and then taking care of them.

But Noah did not complain or make excuses. He trusted God completely, and that made God smile. – And he trusted him for 120 years.

Psalm 147:11 “The Lord is pleased with those who fear him, with those who hope in his mercy.”

3. GOD IS PRAISED WHEN WE LISTEN TO HIM ONE BY ONE – Saving animals from floods around the world requires great attention to logistics and details. Everything must be done as God commanded. He gave detailed instructions about the size of the ark, its shape, and the materials in the ark and the number of animals that would be brought in the ark. The Bible tells us Noah’s answer in Genesis 22. “So Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.” He did everything as God commanded him. That is the whole heart. No wonder God smiled at Noah. John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commandments.”

4. GOD ALWAYS PRAISES AND THANKS HIM FOREVER – Noah’s life made God happy, because he lived with a heart of praise and thanksgiving. The first thing Noah did after surviving the Flood was to thank God by making a sacrifice. Gen 8:20 – And Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every holy animal, and of every holy bird, and offered a burnt offering on the altar.

Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, meat was not sacrificed like Noah. Instead, we are told to offer God a “sacrifice of praise” in Hebrews 13:15 and a “sacrifice of thanksgiving” in Psalm 116:17. We praise God for who he is, and we thank God for what he has done.

A wonderful thing happens when we praise and thank God. When we give God pleasure, our own hearts will be filled with joy!

5. GOD LOVES WHEN WE USE OUR POWER – God enjoys watching all the details of your life, whether you are working, playing, resting, or eating. He didn’t miss a move he made. The Bible tells us in Psalm 37:23: “The way of a good man is from the Lord, and he delights in his way.”

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has predestined that we should not walk in them.”

God has a purpose for every living Christian. It is to bring others to Christ. We often don’t realize that some of the best gifts God gives us are the things we love to do the most. We often think of those gifts as what God has blessed us with, to bring joy and happiness to our lives. When this is true, those gifts are also given to us to serve as a bridge to bring others into the church, and to Him. Bringing others to Christ does not have to be a struggle. It can be as simple as sharing “What you like to do” with others.

We have also been rewarded by our trials. Everyone has, or will encounter a major tragedy in their life. As Christians when we find victory over these trials through faith in God, they, too, become gifts that we can use to comfort others and bring them to Christ. Almost every church has had a member who has had an abortion, lost a loved one, or got rid of drugs or alcohol. And many have used these victories as a bridge to reach the unseen.

“What a wonderful God we have – He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of all mercy, and who wonderfully comforts us and gives us strength in our hardships and trials. And why did he do this? others are in trouble, who need our compassion and encouragement, we can give them the same help and comfort that God has given us.” – 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4.
