What Is Bio-Hazardous Waste?
Hazardous waste is any organic residue that is dangerous to human or animal health, such as:

Anatomical waste includes:
• Body parts

• Blood bags and blood treatments
Laboratory chemicals and photochemicals
Hazardous chemical waste—including:
• Waste classified as ‘hazardous’ in the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 amended 2016 (Schedules 1 and 2) or in the European Waste Catalog (EWC) ‘Waste List’.
• Other wastes that exhibit one or more of the hazardous properties (HP1 to HP15) listed in the Standards (see WM3 Environmental Agency Guide).

The Environmental Protection Act includes a ‘Responsibility of Care’ which requires everyone involved in waste management, including producers, to take reasonable and appropriate measures to ensure that:
• Waste is only stored, treated, left or disposed of in accordance with the waste management license or other authority;
• Waste does not escape the control of the holder;
• Waste is only transported to authorized persons such as registered waste haulers or landfill services authorized to collect such waste;
