Prophecy – Prophetic Symbols

Understanding God’s Pictures.

You have experienced dreams, visions and have prophesied over your life. Some of it may be obvious while other elements are full of mystery. God’s prophetic language can take many forms, and it is often expressed in different ways. Now, God is revealing the meaning of His figurative language so that His people can understand what He is releasing through the prophetic kingdom. It would take a whole book to fully cover this topic but in this article I want to lay down some basics and share some examples that will help you.

Let me recommend first that when you have a dream, a prophetic vision or receive a prophetic word tp always write it down. However, many details can be completely lost within a short period of time. If you receive a prophetic word from a prophet (tess) then ask them to explain what they saw and the sense of what they felt. If it is a vision or a dream, I recommend that you make descriptive notes. Then you can search your Bible for any of the pictures or illustrations to see what that picture shows in the scriptures. There are many electronic Bibles available for free online that include word search and study aids so these can be very helpful.

It is important to prayerfully ask the Holy Spirit to bring understanding to you. He authored the dream so that He has details. You do however, work with details that will make sense to you. You are always using experiences, memories and systems that are unique to you. No one will understand them in the same light as you. For example, seeing a hot stove can bring a person a feeling of warmth, family, comfort and peace. For other people seeing a hot stove in a dream can create feelings of fear or pain because they were badly burned when they fell into the stove as a child. In these scenarios God may lead the first person into comfort, a sense of security or relationship. In the second example, God may be calling that person to freedom from the fear of childhood. So ask Him to identify areas that can show deep restorative work within you.

Let me focus on the pictures. There are many images in the Bible that God used, so refer to them in a document. See if they are related to what you receive. Jesus often uses metaphors that are metaphors that have spiritual truth. A lamp represents light and guidance, while a net represents harvest. Familiarize yourself with these through text searches and note the material, if any come across it.

When interpreting a dream it is important to look at the emotional, spiritual and contextual content within that dream. Is it scary, peaceful, inspiring or scary? Do the statements provide guidance or offer promise? Does the dream reveal issues to pray about? Is the dream a study module in which the Lord gives you a test or application session? Ask questions – why this and not that? Some unresolved issues in dreams are not important. If there are details that you don’t notice (like color or size etc.) they are probably not important.

Let’s look at some dream symbol examples:

A Prophecy Sign
