Why Are Giant Pandas Endangered?

Conservation efforts are having a positive impact on giant panda bear numbers which are estimated to have risen to 3,000 and in 2006 there were about 40 panda reserves in China. These areas have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in an effort to preserve the natural habitats of the giant panda and its smaller relatives.
Special reserves, parks and zoos are currently taking an interest in preserving the panda’s natural habitat, fighting to preserve this unique animal and natural environment for future generations. Captive breeding programs are now increasing the numbers of pandas, although some argue that this is a pointless practice as there is no natural habitat left to sustain them.
