A Positive Mindset – How to Develop One and Remove Negativity

When I checked my emails the other day, I saw messages from some of my friends, about a work-related issue. As I read it I felt overwhelmed by the amount of content in the messages.

I’ve lost count of the number of meetings I’ve attended where unmotivated ideas and words are routinely discussed. I think most of you can relate to this in some way…

People with mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety disorders often have negative thoughts as part of their illness. This usually disappears with the recovery of the disease.

We can avoid disagreements with the people we meet from time to time. But what if the ‘disobedience’ was at home or at work and you had to deal with it every day? How easily can you avoid that?

Let’s start by looking at the three main reasons why we should stop overfeeding.

1. Poor thinking can waste valuable time and resources

Imagine this for a moment – you go to work with the intention of completing your tasks for the day. You find your friends discussing the changes recently introduced by management. You are somehow drawn to conflict. If you are not careful you can have endless conversations and waste your precious time.

Similarly, gossiping, arguing your case because of your “hard to please” ego not only wastes time but also reduces productivity.

2. Negative thoughts affect your health, negatively!

Negative thoughts have negative health consequences. It makes a person more vulnerable to the harmful effects of stress, releasing more stress hormones and reducing endorphins (the so-called “feel good hormones”). Scientific evidence shows that negative thoughts can damage our immune system, making us more susceptible to illness and other physical and mental illnesses.

People who have a bad habit may have a higher risk of memory loss and mental disorders, including depression compared to people who have a positive and positive attitude towards life.

3. Focusing on evil only increases its power

Negativity has growth. Just as one rotten apple in a basket can spoil the rest – a dominant, fixed belief can affect your mind and the world in a way that doesn’t serve you. You soon become critical and cynical.

You can’t communicate well and small things seem important which causes you to argue with others for no reason. Soon you become part of the problem instead of part of the solution.

Why do we feed off negativity?

Adopting a negative attitude does not require effort (although energy can be overcome), while thinking and acting in the right way requires effort and commitment.

Fear of ‘missing out’ can lead to misunderstandings. Not getting our needs met can also affect our mood, for example, lack of loving or meaningful relationships, illness, constant stress, fatigue, exhaustion and so on.

We may enter a “bad mood” from time to time, due to external pressures or internal conflicts. Some people who have experienced problems in the past may expect or “unknowingly” expect the same, thus making ‘disobedience’ a normal but unhealthy response.

Let me share with you a few ways to deal with negativity in your life.

1. Have an open and positive attitude

People who show poor judgment always have low self-esteem. They see themselves as the worst, and their carelessness may reflect that feeling.

Having an open mind should help you listen without question, show genuine empathy, and appreciate the opinions of others. You don’t have to share their ideas or try to solve their problems – just encourage them to find their own solutions. Stay away from negative thoughts of others if you want to help them in a beneficial way.

Research has shown that our expectations of people can affect their behavior and vice versa. When we call a person “critical”, we expect them to complain, be pessimistic and dwell on problems most of the time. This expectation or prediction often happens.

Would it help to say that there is no “good man,” but a man of evil inclinations?

2. Give them energy and enthusiasm

When you take good care of yourself, and take care of your life, the positive energy will soon be lost on those around you. Good vibes can have a contagious effect!

3. Use language carefully

Try repeating this out loud (with conviction)

“I’m sorry”

“This food is disgusting!”

“This traffic jam is messing with my head”

“This is very sad, how dare he complain to the boss about me?”

Now try this instead-

“I don’t feel very well”

“This food is not good”

“The traffic jam is really annoying”

“This doesn’t make sense. I wonder what made him complain to the boss about me.”

The way we frame our sentences and the words we use often play a big role in feeding or resolving conflict. Words like always, never, everything, everyone, none, nothing, etc., can easily distort reality. So choose your words deliberately and thoughtfully.

4. Stop blaming others (and yourself)

You have to accept that you cannot control external events and that no one can make you feel a certain way – only you! No matter how bad things are, no amount of criticism, cynicism or backlash can change it. Try to learn and get the best out of it, no matter what.

5. Empower your imagination!

Negative thoughts and their accompanying emotions can wreak havoc if they are allowed to run wild. Instead of criticizing them, first acknowledge their existence. Ask yourself “does it serve me and my loved ones?” Your body will send out vibes. If this makes you uneasy, remind yourself of the consequences of continuing. Make a conscious decision to dispose of them and get rid of them for good. Losing them creates an empty space in your mind. Fill it with good and happy thoughts, and give these with physical and mental energy. This will make you feel empowered!

6. Take a break

Mental exhaustion can make you feel better and have a better attitude. External noise mixed with your precious thoughts, internal conversations and “to-do” lists can distract you.

Give your body and mind a proper break even for 5 minutes every hour or so. This will not only help you get back on track with the tasks that need to be completed but will also help you work harder.

7. Choose good habits and a healthy lifestyle

Live a healthy life and be very careful with your exercise and your mind. Among other things, try to be grateful every day, read inspirational stories, listen to music, connect with your loved ones, spend time with your children, participate in sports and try to help others in need.

8. Act wisely

Creativity is a state of mind from which creative energy flows. It taps into your inner values and connects you to your core values. The more you try to resist ignoring, the more stuck you become and the more irrational you become. Accept his presence and don’t feel guilty.

Try ways to get into a smarter state. Make a list of things, people or events that evoke joy in you – write this in your journal. Plan these positive initiatives into your daily routine, incorporate them and reap the benefits.

9. Expect the ‘unacceptable’ to have a short life

Remember, if you remain careless it can lead to an unhappy ride. It is not enough to think positive. You also need to get rid of the dry, negative things that you may have accumulated and put them out of your mind. Make hope that they will continue and they will!

10. Have you met your needs?

We all have our physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Focus your attention on them and see which ones need improvement. Talk to them and you will have a new life!

Finally, be inspired by successful and positive people and learn how to deal with disobedience. Remember “Success leaves clues”!

I have written some of my thoughts here. I look forward to hearing from you.
